In the neoplasm of a cell type, different from that found in the normal organ, primary squamous cell carcinomas of the stomach, pure or mixed (adenoacanthoma) are exceedingly rare.
Among the several theories of the pathogenesis of such a tumor with unexpected cell type, preexisting squamous cell metaplasia of the gastric mucosa is known to be most essential one.
Now one case of pure squamous cell carcinoma involving proximal stomach of a 61 years old man, who received an bloc resection of proximal 60% of stomach, spleen, distal two third of pancreas and group of celiac lymph nodes (Grimes operation), is presented with review of literatures.
